What is HUSA?

What does the organization do on campus to advocate for students?

There's lots of ways HUSA advocate for students including the following:

  • Serve as a communication bridge between students and administrators like the Academic Provost, Student Conduct, Faculty Senate and many others

  • Serving on University committees such as Tuition and Rates, The Hilltop Advisory Board, and more

  • Meet directly with President Frederick to voice student concerns and provide perspective/guidance on University-wide decisions and policy

  • Convene and collaborate with student organizations, SGA councils, and other members of government -- this includes event partnerships as well as lending our platform to various causes

  • Serve as a member of the HUSA Senate (Vice President)

  • Present and advocate to the Board of Trustees semesterly (President)

What are modern examples of HUSA  in action/effecting University policy?

Amid the pandemic, HUSA was effective in advocating for opt-in academic pass fail for UG students and extending the add/drop registration period both Fall and Spring of this academic year.

Most recently, HUSA also helped express the need for a Spring Break and University approved mental health days to support overwhelmed and overworked students.
